Don't miss Seaton's Christmas Light Switch On 2024 - our Festive Illumination! 🎄❄️ Join our Facebook event
30th November 4pm - 7pm
This year organisations in Seaton have come together to create a festive buzz throughout the town. Christmas starts in Seaton on 30 November, with a new event curated by Seaton Chamber.
The event is being called Seaton’s Festive Illumination and promises to be more than switching on the Christmas lights. Providing the beats and sounds there will be live music from funk and soul band MOJO Stone Cold players, and soaring harmonies and lively numbers from Seaton Acapella.
The local Scouts will be operating a climbing wall so that those brave enough can scale it to see the lights from a birds eye view. Local venue The Old Picture House will serving up a Hog Roast and The Salty Arms pop up pub will be keeping people warm with boozy (and not) hot chocolates and mulled cider. Many of the independent shops throughout the town (for which Seaton is unique as the only high street with no chain shops) will be open until 7pm so that you can spend time browsing gift ideas, sharing a mince pie or 2 and getting to know the local shop keepers. The popular Pet Santa returns to Animal Botanical and if you haven’t got your 2024 Christmas jumper yet then a visit to the Library is a must for their sale rail. There will be an opportunity to get your face painted to complete your outfit and feel decked out for the occasion. Then looking your festive best you have the opportunity, thanks to The Seaton Lions, to meet Santa in his grotto next to the stage.
The event has been carefully planned by Seaton Chamber, who would like to see the start of some new traditions in the town. They wish to acknowledge the people who contribute to the fabric of the community, and, having fielded opinion from the community, they will invite a Local Legend to perform the honour of turning on the lights. You can follow the event on Facebook to find out who this will be. Alongside the Living Legend accolade the Chamber will also be presenting the inaugural Glowing Angel award. This award is to recognise the positive impact of an individual in the town. Over the years this award will become a growing tribute to the people who have helped to shape Seaton.
There will be activity in town all day. From 9.30-3.30 the third Seaton Chamber independent market will be open at Windsor Gardens. This market goes from strength to strength and will be hosting over 20 traders. Simultaneously there will be the Gateway craft fair taking place indoors 10-4pm.
And of course, all the shops will be open for at least their usual Saturday trading hours, with many staying open until 7pm.
The festive lights are the backbone of the spirit of this time of year and the Chamber wish to thank Seaton Town Council for all their hard work in devising, funding and installing a new arrangement for this year. The Council are also situating 2 large Christmas trees in the Square and in Windsor Gardens. Seaton’s Mayor, Cllr. Amrik Singh, said, ‘Another great example of how our wonderful community works together for the benefit of the town. The Town Council is pleased to be able to fund the lighting up of the town for another year, and hopes that all residents will enjoy Seaton’s Festive Illumination.”
The event takes place on Saturday 30 November, from 4pm - 7pm in Seaton’s old town centre, with the lights switch on at 5pm. Do join us all to share in the excitement of a new chapter of community events in town and share in the season’s goodwill.
